An intimate online masterclass with one of the world's foremost frame drum masters — and one of Yshai's own teachers. His playing, his musical life, and a rare look into how he composes and practises.

Zohar Fresco is among the most influential frame drum masters in the world — an artist who helped lift the tof and the wider family of Middle Eastern frame drums into a refined, contemporary art. His touch is famous for its detail: a vocabulary of fingerings, rolls and colours that turns a single drum into a deeply expressive instrument. For the Afterman Percussion Conservatory the connection is especially close — Zohar is one of Yshai's own teachers, part of the lineage this school carries forward.
Across a long career of performing and recording, he has shaped how a generation of players hears the frame drum: not as accompaniment alone, but as a solo voice with its own melody, breath and architecture.
In this masterclass Zohar opened up his musical journey, the path that shaped his playing, and the things only a master can speak to — his composing process, how ideas become pieces, and his approach to practice: how he works on the instrument and what daily study really asks of a serious player.
