An online masterclass with one of the world's great tombak (zarb) virtuosos. His musical journey, the depth of the Persian tradition, and his approach to teaching, practising and the art of accompaniment.

Pedram Khavarzamini is one of the foremost players of the tombak (zarb), the goblet drum at the heart of Persian classical music. Trained in the great Tehran school of zarb and now teaching and performing across the world, he carries a tradition of remarkable refinement — a drum capable of whispering filigree and driving rhythmic power in the same phrase.
His work bridges deep classical roots and a restless, contemporary curiosity, bringing the Persian percussion language into dialogue with the wider world of rhythm.
In this masterclass Pedram traced his musical journey and the world of the Persian classical tradition the tombak lives in. He shared his thinking as a teacher — his approach to practice and to teaching — and the subtle art of accompaniment: how a percussionist listens to and supports a soloist, breathing with the music rather than over it.
