An exclusive session for the Yshai Afterman student community — an intimate encounter with one of the world's great Carnatic percussion masters: his playing, his musical life, and a deep conversation about the ghatam, konnakol, and the inner language of rhythm.
Giridhar Udupa is one of the foremost ghatam players of his generation — a virtuoso whose mastery of the ancient clay pot drum has brought him to the world's greatest concert stages and recording studios. He is equally celebrated as a konnakol practitioner, the Carnatic art of rhythmic vocal percussion, where he demonstrates an extraordinary command of complex mathematical rhythmic cycles.
This session is not a technique class. It is a conversation — about Carnatic music, about the life of a dedicated musician, about the relationship between ancient rhythmic systems and spontaneous musical thinking. Giridhar will play, speak, and share the inner workings of a musical tradition that has been refined over centuries.
This session + Yshai's Monthly Topic + Percussion Accompaniment, every month — vs. $95 buying separately. Subscriptions are open to current and past students only. Review all options on the Subscribe page.
